“…Your Nanny Deserves a Raise”

In 2012, Ai-Jen Poo, the Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) was recognized by Time 100 list. Partnering with major labor unions like the SEIU and other workers’ rights orgs like National Jobs with Justice, Ai-jen Poo is not only a leader in her organization, but also within the movement.

Since 2012, California, the 12th largest economy in the world, passed the “Domestic Workers’ Bill of Rights.” Evident from the video below, not only is she strategic, but she leads with her heart, as do so many women in NDWA.

We are in a moment where, as George Goehl of National People’s Action said via his twitter, “We must decide: Will we cling to the old economy, or define the values of the new one…” That decision is slowly becoming clearer, we are getting closer, through hard collective work, to the reality that the old economy may very well be on it’s way out.
